Throughout the months of November and December Wamego embraces this season of hope, giving and community harmony by celebrating with visits from Santa Claus, seasonal entertainment at the Columbian Theatre and more! Join us for the many activities that make this a wonderful time for family and also a season to comfort one another.

2019 Season of Lights / December 8

Carriage Rides

  • Take a ride on one of our two carriages. There will be a 6-person and a 12-person carriage available. Will load and unload at the Dutch Mill. If you want to be dropped off at the Columbian Theatre downtown let the driver know. Cash donation or non-perishable food item, new toy, toiletries for the Wamego Christmas Bureau

Santa & Mrs. Claus at School House & Prairie Village Lawn

  • Listen to a book read by Mrs. Claus on the lawn

Wamego’s Historical Museum (Prairie Village in Wamego’s City Park)

Spend a little time at this gem of the Wamego community and Discover Wamego’s history which traces the evolution of Wamego and Pottawatomie County from the first inhabitants, the Konza and Potawatomie Indians, to the history of the Underground Railroad in the area, and the artifacts brought back from the Columbian Exposition of 1893.
Enjoy live Christmas Music on the porch. 
Historical Society will be serving FREE Hot Chocolate and Cookies.

  • Be entertained while waiting to see Santa!

Paws of OZ Presents: Holiday Paws Parade in Wamego City Park

  • Registration will begin at 4 pm at the Old Shelter House in the City Park
  • Participants are encouraged to dress up/decorate their pets in festive holiday gear
  • Parade will begin at 5 pm and prizes will be awarded!
  • Proceeds will benefit the Wamego Dog Park, Paws of OZ.

OZ Museum (Downtown)

  • Upside down Christmas Tree – the OZ version of a tornado during the holidays.
  • Oz characters to share good cheer / Photo Ops
  • OZsome Christmas presents available for purchase for friends, family or your employees.
  • Free admission, on Dec. 8th. from 4 to 7 pm 

Historic Columbian Theatre (Downtown)

Wamego Public Library
StoryWalk Ribbon Cutting

  • Come on out to the Wamego Recreation Complex from 3:00 - 4:00 pm for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Wamego Public Library StoryWalk hosted by WHS Peer Chamber.  Join Peer Chamber members as they provide tours of the StoryWalk project and play life- sized games for the whole family! Dress for the weather, this is an outdoor activity promoting exercise, literacy and family time for our community to enjoy all year!

Library Open House-4-7 pm

  • Stop in for a cookie and do some holiday shopping for the book lovers in your life!  T-shirts, totes and more fun book swag will be available to purchase through the Poppy Tee's pop up shop. Don't miss your chance to see a gingerbread replica of the WPL expansion project and find out more about our renovation plans!

Additional Holiday Fun

  • Tasty Traveler Food Truck will be serving delicious sandwiches, chili and so much more. Located at the Fountain in the City Park, look for the holiday lights.
  • Friendly Cooker will be open during festival, plus many other restaurants throughout Wamego. 
  • Shop local this holiday season!
  • My Sister's Closet at 413 1/2 Lincoln Ave. will be open 4-7:30.   You'll find great fashions inside!
  • Audity Ally at 422 Lincoln Ave. will be open 4-7 pm.  Gifts, jewelry, vintage and more!
  • The Lollipop Shop at 406 Lincoln Ave. will be open from 4-7 pm. 

    Lollipop Shop will be open for the Wamego Season of Lights event! Be sure to stop by as we will have a beaded candy cane craft for the kids, and popcorn too! Check out the art studio, shop our home decor collection, or purchase your favorite old fashioned candies. Remember, 10% of all proceeds are given back to the community locally and globally to support all aspects of the arts.

November 2

  • Holly Fest: First Presbyterian Church (6th & Elm Streets) 9 am to 2 pm- Crafts, vendors, art, food, home-made pies, COOKIES BY THE DOZEN and so much more. All proceeds will go to support the First Presbyterian Church Women’s Group. (For more information call church office: 785-456-2556)

November 10

November 18-22

  • Trees with a Mission on Display at Iron Clad: Activities each day!  All proceeds benefit Community Health Ministry. November 21

  • OZ Winery Holiday Open House: 5 - 7pm / 417 Lincoln.  There will be hors d'oeuvres and wine pairings. Plus 15% discount that evening on all purchases.  (For more information call: 785-456-7417)

November 22

  • A Christmas Story Event: 5:30 to 10 pm. $10 a person. Holiday Fun with Live and Silent Auction. https://ccmks.org/

November 27

  • Annual Pie Sale: This yearly event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  Starts at 8am on Wednesday morning at the library and pies are for sale until they are gone. They will go fast, so DO NOT DELAY. All pies are homemade. Prices are $10 for pumpkin and $15 for all others.  Anyone that would like to donate a homemade pie should contact the library. November 27 thru Jan. 6th

  • 13th Annual Sylvester’s Holiday Light Show (Hwy 99 – South of Wamego) This Holiday light show starts Thanksgiving weekend (weather permitting) and runs through January 6th.   Over 40,000 lights synchronized to music. Head south on K99 toward Interstate 70 approximately 2.5 miles. The display is on the east side of the road, just look for the giant reindeer. There is a circle drive and parking (weather permitting) in the field directly adjacent to the drive.

December 7

  • Cookies by the Pound: For just $6 you can get a pound of delicious, home-made cookies, sponsored by St. Luke's Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church! Hosted at St. Luke's at 700 Lincoln Ave., Wamego, KS 66547, from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

December 7 & 8

  • Christmas Home Tours: 10 am to 4 pm on the 7th and 1 pm to 4 pm on the 8th. - $15 per person and there are 6 homes available to tour. Tickets can be purchased on either the 8th or 9th at any of the homes. Addresses to be announced.

December 8- 4-7 pm

  • Season of Lights: Wamego City Park - 4 pm to 7 pm  Photos with Santa in the school house in City Park- Courtesy of Reflections Photography, have dinner at the Tasty Traveler food truck, warm up with hot chocolate and cookies at the Historical Museum, visit the Wamego Public Library for activities, be entertained by live performances in the park, participate in or watch the Holiday Paws Parade through the City Park and ride the horse drawn carriage-just bring a donation for the Christmas Bureau.
  • Season of Lights: Iron Clad - 427 Lincoln  Free children's craft for the first 100 children from 4 to 7 pm. Model train on display from 12 to 7 pm.

  • The Feast of Carols -  7th and 8th Grade Bands and Choir starts at 6:30 p.m. and the High School performs at 7:45 p.m.  The concert is at the WHS Auditorium.  For more information: wamegobands.org

  • The Christmas Spectacular - 4:00 pm - United Methodist Church Featuring the chancel, bell & children's choir, praise band, organ, piano & vocalists.  A  Birthday party for Jesus to follow.

COMMUNITY CARE MINISTRIES IS KICKING OFF CHRISTMAS WITH A WEEK OF FESTIVE ACTIVITIES ALL INSIDE IRON CLAD!

  • Join us at Iron Clad to enjoy and bid on the beautiful trees, wreaths and center pieces.

Christmas Lights in Wamego

There are many wonderful Christmas lights throughout Wamego from Thanksgiving Day and then throughout the Christmas season.  Load up friends and family, grab a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate at Paramour Coffee Shop, Short Stop or Last Stop and cruise around Wamego and enjoy all that twinkles this season.
