Fireworks

welcome to boomtown, usa!

  • Does it Cost?  No. Thanks to our incredible donors and sponsors and thousands of volunteers our show is FREE!
  • Where to Sit:  The absolute best place to watch the incredible “in the round” experience is right there in the huge grass field on the east side of the Wamego Recreation Complex. You'll see, hear, and feel what makes the Wamego Fireworks Show unlike any other.
  • What to Bring:  Radio or personal earbuds to listen to the fireworks soundtrack and amazing patriotic show introduction which is broadcast on B104.7 FM starting at 9:45pm. A blanket and/or lawn chairs for the grass, and ear plugs for any sensitive ears.
  • Arrival Time:  Arrive early and enjoy the entire evening! Head to the complex shortly after the parade ends for the FREE concert featuring Fort Riley's 1st Infantry Division Rock Band on the main stage starting at 7:30pm. There are multiple food trucks on site with service starting at 4pm. Our popular saying is, “If you arrive after 8:00, you're late!”. Come early, relax, and enjoy the show.
  • What Happens After:  Stick around for the post fireworks concert! We've worked very hard with local law enforcement and KDOT and have a great traffic plan to get things flowing and  and effectively get everyone back out and on the road.  The Wamego Fireworks Show is like any other major sporting or spectator event, a little patience and planning goes a long way.
  • What NOT to Bring: Alcohol and personal Fireworks are not allowed on any city property, which includes the Recreation Complex, City Park, and the Parade Route. Dogs should not be brought to the Recreation Complex/Fireworks viewing site due to large crowds and loud noise. Personal pop up tents in the grass areas near the fireworks must be taken down by 8:30pm by order of the Fire Department for crowd safety.

History

4th of July has long been part of the culture and pride of Wamego, KS. This incredible show is shot by a group of citizen volunteers, now simply known as the “Pyro Crew”. But just because they are volunteers, doesn’t mean they aren’t trained professionals. The Wamego Pyro Crew includes multiple state licensed display operators and the entire shooting team has been exam certified by the Pyrotechnic Guild International. The Pyro Crew brings over 200 years of combined experience to Wamego’s show making for one of the most tenured and consistent shooting crews anywhere in the country.

Unlike most displays, which are funded by one or two major title sponsors, Wamego’s grassroots effort creates a community-based show funded by the contributions of hundreds of donors from across the United States. The Wamego display has become known nationwide for it's innovation and one of a kind viewing experience. and the crew works in a carefully scripted and coordinated effort to provide a uniquely fast-paced, intense, percussive show with sky saturating action. The Wamego Fireworks show is truly the sound of Freedom with over 6 tons of fireworks launched through the 30 minute show, earning the title “Boomtown USA”.
