- Does it Cost? No. Thanks to our incredible donors and sponsors and thousands of volunteer ours show is FREE!
- Where to Sit: The absolute best place to watch the incredible “in the round” experience is right there in the huge grass field on the east side of the Wamego Recreation Complex. You'll see, hear, and feel what makes the Wamego Fireworks Show unlike any other. Get close to the show!
- What to Bring: Radio or personal earbuds to listen to the fireworks soundtrack and amazing patriotic show introduction which is broadcast on B104.7 FM starting at 9:45pm. A blanket and/or lawn chairs for the grass, and ear plugs for any sensitive ears.
- Arrival Time: Arrive early and enjoy the entire evening! Head to the complex shortly after the parade ends for the FREE concert featuring Fort Riley's 1st Infantry Division Rock Band on the main stage starting at 7:30pm. There are multiple food trucks on site with service starting at 4pm. Our popular saying is, “If you arrive after 8:00, you're late!”. Come early, relax, and enjoy the show.
- What Happens After: Stick around for the post fireworks concert! We've worked very hard with local law enforcement and KDOT and have a great traffic plan to get things flowing and and effectively get everyone back out and on the road. The Wamego Fireworks Show is like any other major sporting or spectator event, a little patience and planning goes a long way.
- What NOT to Bring: Alcohol and personal Fireworks are not allowed on any city property, which includes the Recreation Complex, City Park, and the Parade Route. Dogs should not be brought to the Recreation Complex/Fireworks viewing site due to large crowds and loud noise. Personal pop up tents in the grass areas near the fireworks must be taken down by 8:30pm by order of the Fire Department for crowd safety.
FREE Public Parking is available in marked lots adjacent to the Wamego Recreation Complex and along Balderson Blvd. Side street parking is permitted unless otherwise marked. *No parking allowed along shoulders of Highway 24.
FREE Remote shuttle parking is located at:
1 - Wamego High School Football Stadium - RED SHUTTLE LOT - Located at the intersection of Hwy 24 and Columbian.
2 - Wamego Middle School - GREEN SHUTTLE LOT - Located at 1701 Kaw Valley Rd
Shuttles run from 4-9pm back and forth between the parking lots and the Fireworks Viewing Area. Return Shuttle Service to the lots resumes at approximately 10:35pm until lots are clear.
The MCM lot across from the Wamego Recreation Complex is a suggested $20 parking fee that benefits the Boy Scouts.
The Shuttle lots are FREE and open to the public to and from the Wamego Recreation Complex from 4-9 pm and will resume return service after the fireworks show at approximately 10:30.
Shuttles will make stops at the top of the parade route prior to 6:00pm for those wishing to attend the Parade. This drop-off location is NOT a pick-up location. Pick-up locations are at the recreation complex only. The parade route runs along Lincoln Street (Downtown Wamego) from 8th to 4th Streets. From the parade, it is a short walk East to the recreation complex for the fireworks show.

Wamego Recreation Complex - Return Drop-Off and Pick-Up for both shuttles is the North-West corner of the Fireworks Viewing Area at the intersection of Highway 24 and Pine St.
We are committed to the needs of our guests. At the donor reserved parking area at the complex, additional parking spaces are created and designated for those with disabilities on July 4th. This total well exceeds the number of disabled parking spaces required by the ADA. To guarantee one of these spots, a parking pass may be purchased at www.boomtownusa.com with request for an ADA spot. Otherwise, remaining inventory of these spaces are offered free on a first come, first served, basis. Unfortunately, the demand always exceeds supply.
In addition, there are handicapped parking spots available at both FREE Shuttle Lots, located at the Wamego High School Football Field and Wamego Middle School.

Local law enforcement agencies, the Wamego Chamber & CVB, as well as the Wamego Fireworks Show Pyro Crew have consistently worked together to create a traffic plan that effectively directs spectators out of Wamego after the Fireworks show in a safe way. We kindly ask for patience as vehicles are dispersed efficiently and expeditiously to ensure safety of all guests and law enforcement. Take a deep breath, relax and listen to the band 1st ID Rock Band post-fireworks show.
The distance between the Parade and Carnival downtown and the Wamego Recreation Complex is very walkable with less than 12 blocks between the 2 locations. On the 4th, arrive early to for ample parking and plenty of time for day-long activities.
Or, utilize the free shuttle service from the designated parking lots to the Fireworks Launch Site and/or parade.
Opting to walk allows for efficient navigation.
Enjoy carnival rides for all ages at the Carnival taking place along Ash Street in Wamego, one block east of Downtown Wamego. June 28th through July 3rd - 6pm to 10pm - wristbands $28.00. July 4th 3pm to 10pm - wristbands $30.00.
The Annual Independence Day Parade begins at 6:00 p.m. and is anticipated to last about an hour. Please stay behind the flag line for spectator safety!
Near Downtown: A First Aid station will be located at the corner of 5th and Ash at the Senior Center.
At the Recreation Complex/Fireworks Viewing Area: First Responders will be stationed at the intersection of Hwy 24 and Pine St. in the north west corner of the Recreation Complex near the Shuttle Bus pickup/dropoff area.
