Outdoor Recreation

Wamego, often referred to as Queen City of the Kaw, because of its location on the northern bank of the Kansas River, is surrounded by over 100 miles of scenic drives, and hiking and biking trails. With over 15,000 acres of wildlife refuge, Tuttle Creek Reservoir, three county lakes and five state parks nearby, Wamego is at the center of some of the best outdoor opportunities in the state. The area also offers some of the best hunting and fishing in the state, with upland game birds, migratory waterfowl, deer and wild turkey all in abundance.
Maps of the biking and hiking trails, and scenic drives are available through the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation, 1004 Lincoln (785)456-9776.
