Cowboy Way Ranch & Vacations: An Authentic Cowboy Experience

Located 20 miles from Wamego, and once home to Wayne Dunafon, the Marlboro Man, this working ranch of 1,000-plus acres features lodging, primitive camping, cattle drives, horseback trail rides, fishing, hiking and hunting opportunities. 

Personal horses welcome or available for rent on-site. Adults ages 18 and older, $120 per person, per night. Children ages 4 -17, $50 per child, per night.  Prices include all activities, three campfire meals and one night’s stay in the ranch house.*

If you want to customize your vacation experience, here are separate prices per activity:

  • Camping with an RV is $25 per night.
  • Tent camping is $20 per night.
  • Two hour trail ride costs $25 per rider with own horse. 
  • Five or more riders in a group costs $20 each.
  • Trail ride costs $50 per rider if you rent a horse.
  • Five or more riders cost $45 each.
  • All rides are guided rides, and longer rides are available by reservation only.
  • Three hour cattle drives cost $100 per ride with own horse or $150 per rider with rental horse. Cattle drive prices include campfire meal.
  • Limited and exclusive deer and turkey hunting will be offered for the 2009 season.

Directions

Travel north on Lincoln Ave / KS 99 – 14 miles
Turn left (going west) on State Street in Westmoreland – 1 mile
Turn right on Westmoreland Road - .5 miles
Take a left on Westmoreland Road – follow around for 3.7 miles
Turn right on Cree road – 1 mile
At the end of the road, follow it right until it forks. Follow the fork left, and continue on road through stream crossing up to the house.

Vermillion Valley Equine Center

This equine center, set in the picturesque Glacial Hills just 9.5 miles from Wamego, offers English and Western riding lessons, as well as guided trail rides.  Riders of all experience levels and ages are welcome.  Boarding is also available.

Riding lessons are $35 per hour.  Guided trail rides, plus lessons, are $50 per hour.*

Directions

Travel east on Hwy 24 four miles to Onaga Road. 
Turn left and go eight miles to Pitney Road. 
Turn right on Pitney Road and follow for just over a mile to Camp Creek Road. 
Look for the sign.

Randolph State Park

This area, 32 miles from Wamego, offers a 13-mile long equestrian trail that traverses a wide variety of terrains and views of the Flint Hills, Tuttle Creek Lake and lots of wildlife. The trail is open to equestrian and hiking only.  There are also horse pens, wash racks, covered picnic shelter, shower building and restrooms available at the park.

The area has 20 electric sites and 50 primitive sites for camping.

Travel north on Lincoln Avenue / KS 99 – 14.2 miles.
Turn left (going west) on State Street in Westmoreland – 1 mile. Turn right on Westmoreland Road – ½ mile.
Turn left (going west) on Westmoreland Road – 6 miles.
Take a right (going north) on KS-13 – ½ mile. Turn left on KS-16 – 10 miles.
Turn left on Randolph Park Road
