Oregon Trail Nature Park

Oregon Trail Nature Park
Actual ruts left behind by thousands of wagons traveling the trail can still be seen near the hand-painted silo at the Oregon Trail Nature Park.

The Oregon Trail Nature Park showcases 19 acres of natural Kansas eco-systems, bordering the historic Oregon Trail along its southern edge. The park’s three nature trails show the beauty of the Kansas prairie, wildlife, and take you past the lakes, streams, and woodlands. A silo at the park showcases an original mural by local artist Cynthia Martin featuring immigrants traveling the Oregon Trail, a Native American buffalo hunt, and Wildlife. The park also has a shelter house, amphitheater and restrooms are available. The area is open dawn to dusk, seven days a week. Located 10 miles from Wamego.

Did You Know?

The American Bison – commonly known as the American Buffalo – is not actually a buffalo, as it is only distantly related to the Water Buffalo and African Buffalo. The nickname, “Buffalo,” originated with French fur trappers during the 1600s.
